Cal Transit
A redesign that incorporates ticket purchasing directly into the app rather than redirecting users to an external browser.
Cal Transit is a mobile app redesign focused on creating a more intuitive and efficient experience for commuters purchasing tickets and planning train trips. After evaluating the existing Caltrain experience, I identified usability challenges including overwhelming schedules, inconsistent navigation, redirects to external web pages, low-contrast controls, and information that was difficult to locate on a mobile device. My redesign brings these essential tasks into a cohesive mobile experience, allowing users to quickly search for routes, compare available train times, purchase tickets, and access saved or active tickets without leaving the app.
The redesigned experience prioritizes the information commuters need most while reducing unnecessary steps and visual clutter. Features such as past-trip rebooking, flexible ticket options, a streamlined checkout, and an organized ticket wallet make purchasing and managing fares more convenient. I also redesigned trip planning around a simple date-based search and concise route results, helping users plan future journeys without navigating complicated timetables. A consistent visual system, clearer hierarchy, and mobile-friendly navigation bring these features together into an experience designed to make everyday train travel simpler and more accessible.
